An update of life on the MMW farm…
Where has the last year gone?
Wow what a whirlwind. On one hand, farm life has this peculiar way of seemingly slowing down time, but on the other hand it also seems to speed things up. Weeks become months, months become seasons, and in this case, seasons become a year. Living on the land forces you to slow down, take a breath, immerse yourself in whatever stage of the seasonal cycle your in, and work hard at any of the 100 jobs you have on your to do list. But at the same time, your head is planning and preparing for the next season, the following year, the future of the farm, and for us, the future vintages of the winery. You’ve got one eye and two hands on the present, and the other eye firmly fixed on the future and the changes going on around you.
We are lucky though; wine is this beautiful thing that allows you to fully capture the last year of love and sweat in one glass, preserving a liquid time capsule of sorts, only to be opened and remembered again in years yet to come. But, I digress…
So much has changed at MMW since the last blog post, and the purpose of this post was to give you a little insight into what we have been working on.
The vineyard has been experiencing some significant upgrades both to the vines themselves, the vineyard infrastructure, and of course (and almost most significantly) the soil.
We have hosted our first full wedding season of weddings at MMW, and what an unbelievable experience that has been! We have been SO lucky with the incredible couples choosing to get married at the winery, and watching their individual style and taste come to fruition has been inspiring.
The restaurant and cellar door is now open significantly more often, and our little team of loyal staff has doubled in size.
Our herd of beef cattle have grown significantly, and we have added a small flock of sheep to help keep the grass down and fertilise our soil.
We renovated an old barn that is now a fully dedicated wet weather ceremony option, and we can’t wait to have some weddings up there next wedding season!
The gardens and surrounds have been given a facelift and this is an ongoing labour of love.
We are working on a few really exciting projects (like REAAAAALLLYYY super exciting) that we can’t wait to tell all about.
We promise you will see greater regularity of new content on the website, however Instagram and facebook are other ways you can keep your finger on the pulse of the MMW farm.
So stay tuned! We look forward to seeing you at MMW soon 🙂
